Relief for Son HeungMin & Gold for South Korea

 

Under the South Korea country’s law, all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to perform at least 21 months of military service. The Defense Ministry has pledged to reduce the term to 18 months by 2020. Multiple petitions have been filed to the official Blue House website. Urging President Moon Jae-in to issue the football players an official exemption. Any South Korean athletes who win Olympic medals or Asian Games titles are exempt from the usual mandatory military service.

In Asia games 2018, South Korea beat Vietnam 3-1 in the semifinal. Japan beat UAE 1-0 in the other round. The final was played on 1st September.

 FIFA don’t officially recognized Asian Game tournament

South Korea’s Premier League Tottenham star Son Heung-min was one game away from avoiding national service. He missed his chance for exemption in 2014 when the South Korean team won Asian Games gold. As his German Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen refused to release him. FIFA officially don’t recognize Asian Game tournaments. Due to which clubs aren’t obliged to release their players.

After a goalless 90 minutes, Seung-woo Lee scored less than three minutes into extra time. Six minutes later and South Korea were 2-0 up as Son grabbed another assist. South Korea’s victory will come as a welcome relief to Tottenham, who recently handed the forward a new long-term deal to remain in north London plus the north London club didn’t make any signing in last summer transfer window.
